HAUT-RHIN. 1798. PRISONER ESCAPE. "Extract from the register of public sessions of the central administration of the HAUT-RHIN department, held in COLMAR (68) on 6 Prairial An 6 (25 May 1798). Bureau Militaire et de Police N°12652 - concerning prisoner escapes entrusted to the Gendarmerie during transfers from one prison to another. "Heads of murderous gangs covered in all crimes, and already condemned to capital punishment, return to society to commit greater ones, and by which he instructs the administration, to request the National Guard to, in this concert with the Gendarmerie Brigade, guard the prisoners who, on their passage, are deposited in a prison, to stay there until the Gendarmerie Brigade is relieved by the one charged with making the prisoners continue on their way".
