BOISSY-D'ANGLAS. SWISS GUARDS OF RUEIL-MALMAISON. Autograph - Lot 534
BOISSY-D'ANGLAS. SWISS GUARDS OF RUEIL-MALMAISON. Autograph letter signed by François-Antoine BOISSY-D'ANGLAS (1756-1826) Former Conventionnel de l'ARDÈCHE, President of the National Convention, Deputy, Senator, written from BOUGIVAL (Yvelines) on August 17, 1824, complaining about the Swiss Guard in Ruel (Rueil-Malmaison). 2 pages in-4°: "Monsieur le Comte. I thank you for the justice you have done for the farmers in my neighborhood and for myself. I expected no less from your loyalty and your love of order. The Grand Judge of the Swiss Guard did me the honor of coming to see me this very day to assure me, on behalf of the Commandant of the Ruel Barracks, that the most severe orders had been renewed to prevent the assaults of which I have complained, and he wished me to inform you of his approach. He does not think it possible to place bollards at a distance more or less from the barracks, which soldiers would be forbidden to pass... Mr. Grand Judge has assured me that other precautions would be taken which, without hindering freedom of movement, would achieve the same goal...".
