Nasa. This photograph shows the main American astronaut suit - Lot 89
Nasa. This photograph shows the main American astronaut suits designed from the beginning of the American space program to the Apollo 11 mission. On the left, astronaut Walter Schirra in the MERCURY suit, in the center, astronaut John YOUNG in the GEMINI suit, and on the right, astronaut Neil ARMSTRONG in the Apollo 11 self-contained suit with a life-support system on the back. This is a measure of the fantastic progress made by America in less than 10 years, from a simple, improved fighter pilot suit for MERCURY flights to a self-contained suit enabling a man to walk on the Moon a few years later. 1969. Vintage silver print. Teletransmitted press photograph with caption on front. 17.6 x 25.6cm.
