NASA. LARGE FORMAT. APOLLO 12 mission. Astronaut Charles Conrad Jr, commander of Apollo 12, examines the unmanned spacecraft Surveyor III during the second spacewalk (EVA-2). The lunar module (LM) "Intrepid" is in the background on the right. This photo was taken by astronaut Alan L. Bean, lunar module pilot. The "Intrepid" landed on the Moon's ocean of storms just 600 feet from Surveyor III. The TV camera and several other components were removed from Surveyor III and brought back to Earth for scientific analysis. Surveyor III made a soft landing on the Moon on April 19, 1967, to study the surface of the light soil, and in particular to photograph it. November 1969. Vintage chromogenic print.
