François-Joseph WESTERMANN, born September 5, 1751 in MOLSHEIM (Bas-Rhin, Alsace), guillotined April 5, 1794 in Paris, was a Brigadier General of the French Revolution, famous for the atrocities he committed during the Vendée wars. He was appointed Adjutant-General by the Executive Council, headed by Danton, who sent him on a secret mission to Dumouriez in the Armée du Nord after the September massacres. Arrested after Dumouriez's treason, he protested to the Convention and was released on May 4, 1793.
