AIN and MONT-BLANC. SEPARATION OF MALE AND FEMALE PRISONERS. 1794. "In the name of the French People, ALBITTE (Conventionnel de la Seine-Inférieure), People's Representative, sent for the execution of measures of Public Salvation, and the establishment of the Revolutionary Government, in the Departments of AIN and MONT-BLANC. Done in CHAMBERY (73) on 12 Ventôse An 2 (2 March 1794). "Considering that morals and the interests of the Republic are equally injured by the indecent and impolitic gathering of suspected persons of both sexes in the same house of detention. Considering that it would be an outrage to the rigor of the Law,... to condemn to detention children of both sexes, against whom there can be no other grounds for reproach than having been born of parents who were formerly noble. . Considering that children belong to the Patrie and are entitled to the benefits of the Revolution; that to neglect their education, or to expose them to being totally vitiated and corrupted by the fury of prejudice and aristocratic vengeance, by leaving them with their detained parents, would be to tear them away from the Republic...; arrête...". - Printed in Chambéry, by GORRIN, père et fils.
