CALVADOS. ABBEY OF LISIEUX. Lettre A.S. DE CRÉQUI Abbesse, w - Lot 343
CALVADOS. ABBEY OF LISIEUX. Lettre A.S. DE CRÉQUI Abbesse, written from LISIEUX on September 23 (circa 1802), addressed to Monseigneur Charles BRAULT Évêque de BAYEUX (appointed in 1802), following the Concordat of August 15, 1801. 2 pages in-8°: "Monseigneur. Mr. Président du tribunal, who takes a keen interest in us, and who has the confidence of Mr. Préfet, knowing that the Translation de l'Hospice de l'Abbaye had been decided, urged us to bid for the Mathurins building, and those of the Hospital (which his ladies must leave), for a price well below its value, Hoping that we would be willing to make a favourable sale, this gentleman asked us to keep an inviolable secret, which cost me a great deal to keep from you, Monseigneur; I don't think anyone is aware of it, but rumor has it that the hospital will definitively move to the Abbey, and that we will be placed at the Hospice and the Mathurins. When I know something definite, I'll have the honor of letting you know..."
