Paris November 14, 1811 - 1 page folio: "I did not need your letter of the 13th to commit myself to completing the operations of the Conseil d'Enquête. As soon as I arrived on the evening of the 11th, I was thinking of convening the Commission for this purpose.... Yesterday, I asked Generals BOURCIER and ÉBLÉ to report to me.... We have decided, General, that on Saturday 16th, the Board of Enquiry will meet; and it is on its behalf, that I invite you to come to my home, where its sessions are held, at 11 a.m., to answer the questions it intends to put to you." - (Le Général ERNOUF (Jean-Augustin, baron) Capitaine général des Iles du Vent à la Place de VILLARET-JOYEUSE, 22 avril 1806; Capitula à la GUADELOUPE 5 fév. 1810; was taken prisoner to England; suffering from a fatal illness, he obtained permission to return to France by exchange; arrested on July 18, 1811; tried for embezzlement and treason before the Commission of Inquiry presided over by Marshal MONCEY, who referred the case to the Imperial High Court; The latter in turn referred the case to the Cour de Cassation, which summoned Ernouf to appear before the Tribunal de Première Instance (Court of First Instance); no further action was taken; Ernouf was provisionally released on January 21, 1814.)
