COMTESSE DE LAVALETTE, Émilie Louise de BEAUHARNAIS (1781-1855) was the daughter of Marquis François de Beauharnais, and his wife and cousin Marie-Anne-Françoise de Beauharnais. On her father's side, she was the granddaughter of François de Beauharnais, Governor of Martinique. On her mother's side, she is descended from Claude de Beauharnais, Comte des Roches-Baritaud. Émilie de Beauharnais was the cousin of Hortense Queen of Holland, Eugène Viceroy of Italy and Stéphanie de Beauharnais Grand Duchess of Baden. On April 22, 1798, she married Antoine Marie Chamans (Directeur des Postes de l'Empire), future Comte de Lavalette, sentenced to death in 1815 (Mme de Beauharnais took part in her husband's escape in 1815), and pardoned in 1822. She is the niece by marriage of Empress Joséphine - Letter A.S. without place or date (the 13th) addressed to M. Bernardet hôtel de New-York at Mme de Carl's home in Le Havre.
