New Testament in Mongolian - Lot 136
New Testament in Mongolian New Testament of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Translated out of the original Greek into the Mongolian language, by Edward Stallybrass and William Swan, for the British and Foreign Bible Society. London, imp. William Watts, 1846. The missionaries who worked on this translation claim to have used Buddhist monks to help them in their work. The word God is translated here as Burhan, the Mongolian term for Buddha. At the time, the surrounding Mongols regarded Christianity as a new form of Buddhism. In-4°. [6], 925 pages. Modern leather binding. Spine decorated with title in Mongolian. Very rare.
