Jean Charles de SAINT-NECTAIRE, Marquis de SÉNECTÈRE, Maréch - Lot 191
Jean Charles de SAINT-NECTAIRE, Marquis de SÉNECTÈRE, Maréchal de France in 1757 (1685 - 1771) Governor of Saintonge in 1761 - Letter signed by the Maréchal de SÉNECTÈRE, Bordeaux, August 22, 1767. 1 ½ page folio: "I have been here for a few days, Monsieur le Maréchal, for a lawsuit I currently have on the desk. I was sent from La Rochelle the letter you did me the honor of writing to me, to which is attached a draft ordinance... concerning the discipline, subordination and service of the Maréchaussées, on which you were good enough to ask my opinion. Mr. Maréchal de RICHELIEU having received such a letter... we discussed it together...". Can the Tribunal ever consent to giving the greatest portion of authority to Gens de Robe over a Troop of War assigned and subject only to the Constable and the Marshals of France for more than 88 years? Wouldn't this be opening the door to all kinds of abuses...?"
