Boxing / Automobile / Carpenter / Mascot - Lot 25
Boxing / Automobile / Carpenter / Mascot
Maurice GUIRAUD-RIVIÈRE (1881–1947)
Boxer in a guard stance (Carpenter?), mascot, circa 1920
Bronze cast with brown patina, signed on the base and inscribed “Registered Design,” no screw under the base
H: 14 cm (wear on the patina)
One of the many masterpieces by the great Toulouse master who excelled at creating radiator mascots. During the Roaring Twenties, people began decorating cars and bicycles with mascots. On cars, the mascot was mounted as a radiator cap (posing a danger in the event of a head-on collision, which later led to their being banned).
