Cycling / Cycle Tourism / Paris / De Baroncelli - Lot 56
Cycling / Cycle Tourism / Paris / De Baroncelli Set of 3 practical and technical guides by pioneer Adrien de Baroncelli (1852–1926): - “La vélocipédie pratique,” 1889 (4th edition), paperback, 84 pages. All the useful details on clothing, accessories, etc. Enhanced with beautiful vintage advertisements - “Detailed Guide to the Surroundings of Paris, Within a 140-km Radius,” 1891, hardcover. Also explains how to get to Paris, London, Brussels, or Geneva - “Guide to the Paris Area for Cyclists and Motorists (within a 140-km radius),” circa 1910 (20th edition), 432 pages. Paperback (shows signs of wear) Baroncelli began exploring the Alps at age 19 and would go on to become one of the great “freedom guides” for cyclists and motorists—perhaps the first in this irreplaceable lineage. Enthusiasts know that his first bicycle was called “Frou-Frou,” but do they know that Coubertin named his own “Nini-Patte-en-l’Air”?
