Cycling / 1913 Tour de France / Dozol / Leman / Le Havre - Lot 68
Cycling / 1913 Tour de France / Dozol / Leman / Le Havre Postcard “622 – Le Havre and Sainte-Adresse – LL,” sent by Lucien Leman (1881–1939) to a friend from Le Havre, the finish line of the first stage of the 1913 Tour (388 km) On the front, Marcel Dozol’s stamp: “Souvenir des Déshérités / Team Dozol / Vrais Isolés du Tour de France / Cycliste de L’Auto 1913,” with Leman’s ink signature A former rider from Cannes (32nd in the 1907 Tour), Marcel Dozol (1877–1918) sold postcards to support himself while he was racing. After retiring, he continued to do so to help the underprivileged riders of the Tour de France. This extended version of his stamp, featuring references to the “disadvantaged” and the “truly isolated,” along with the date 1913 matching the postmark, makes it a genuine historical document. A Parisian cyclist riding a Pannetton bike, Leman finished this first stage, completed the second (78th out of 101), and then withdrew during the third (405 km).
