Weightlifting / Strength / Calais / Lille / Meese Set of 2 medals including: - Partially silver-plated bronze medal. Obverse: Coat of arms of the city of Calais / Reverse: A wreath of laurel and oak leaves surrounding the inscription: “July 12, 1925. World record in the barbell press, 92.7 kg. Jules Meese.” In its case, 4.5 cm in diameter. This native of Lille would also go on to become a four-time French champion and an Olympic finalist in 1928 - Significant gilt-bronze medal with a loop. The design features two stylized weightlifters in the Art Deco style, one excelling at the snatch, the other at the clean and jerk. This style is reminiscent of certain works by Edouard Chassaing.
