Wrestling / World Championships / Folies-Bergère / Casino de - Lot 170
Wrestling / World Championships / Folies-Bergère / Casino de Paris / Padoubny Set of 3 documentary items about the wrestling craze in Paris (3 simultaneous world tournaments in late 1906): - The rare program for the “World Wrestling Championship of the Federation of French Wrestling Societies,” organized by “Les Sports” at the Folies-Bergère in October 1906. On the cover, world champion Padoubny in a Cossack outfit. Unpaginated, richly illustrated (26x16). Includes the rules, all the advertisements from the time, and portraits of the champions—from Padoubny to Zipps, including Antonich, the Serbian titan, and others. - “Le Monde Illustré,” November 25, 1906, the World Championship at the Casino de Paris, featuring Laurent le Beaucairois, Deriaz, Padoubny, and Cazeaux - “La Vie au Grand Air,” November 24, 1906, featuring Paddoubny and Eberlé on the color cover, with a double-page spread inside by Fioravanti (featuring all the competitors). The organizing newspapers are jostling for position, as are the venues (Cirque Métropole, Casino de Paris, Folies-Bergère)
