Adrienne JOUCLARD (1882–1972)
Match
Indian ink and wash on paper, signed in pencil. Stamp from the sale of the A. Jouclard studio, Drouot, 1992.
24 x 24 cm (image size); 38 x 38 cm (framed).
A work that captivates with its purity and vibrancy. Adrienne Jouclard trained at the École des Arts Décoratifs and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. She won an award at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1908, received a medal in 1912, and was awarded the Rosa-Bonheur Prize in 1914. She began participating in the Salon des Indépendants in 1919 and became a member of the Salon d’Automne in 1921. Beginning in 1931, she was a member of the Groupe des Douze, founded around François Pompon. Sports, her favorite subject, brought her fame: drawn to the dynamism of movement, she was the first woman to distinguish herself in the depiction of the sporting world. She represented France in the art competitions at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1932 and in London in 1948. The National Museum of Sports holds many of her works.
