Jules Louis BOLÉ, Marquis de CHAMLAY (1650–1719), French mil - Lot 80
Jules Louis BOLÉ, Marquis de CHAMLAY (1650–1719), French military leader and diplomat. Highly regarded and trusted by King Louis XIV—Letter signed “CHAMLAY” with 8 lines in his own hand, from MARLY (78) February 13, 1693, to Mr. de VERTILLAC. 4 pages, in-4°: “Mr. VOISIN has written to me very favorably regarding Mr. de GAGES, and since he arrived here, he has promised to speak to Mr. De BARBEZIEUX about it. The King does not want the officers of MONS to be admitted to the Parliament of TOURNAY. It is even believed that, before long, the officers of that Parliament will be funded... I am very grateful to you, Sir, for the leave you are kind enough to request from Mr. de GIVERSAC on behalf of the man named HUERNE, formerly a soldier in his company. I do not advise you to ask Mr. de BARBEZIEUX to recommend you to the King for service in the field...”—3 pages, in-8°.
