Duke of ORLÉANS (Louis, Duke of CHARTRES, later Duke of ORLÉANS) VERSAILLES, August 4, 1703 – Paris, 1752 – Son of Philippe d’Orléans, known as “The Regent.” He joined the Councils (1718) and became Governor of the DAUPHINÉ (1719), Colonel General of the Infantry (1721), and Head of the Council of State. The death of his wife, the Princess of BADEN, plunged him into deep melancholy (1742). Having retired to the Abbey of Sainte-Geneviève, he devoted himself ardently to theological studies there. He had one son, Louis Philippe, Duke of Orléans: A document signed “LOUIS D’ORLÉANS” bearing his name and titles as Governor and Lieutenant General of the Dauphiné – He appointed Sieur PERROY DE MURCY to the position of Captain in the MONTFORT Infantry Regiment.
