WATCHMAKING. “Decree of the King’s Council of State, dated May 5, 1722, ordering WATCHMAKERS to bring their gold and silver works to the Office of the Goldsmiths’ Guild to be assayed, paying 40 sols for all fees, so that after said assaying has been completed and the items have been certified as meeting the required standards, the said works may be marked with the hallmark of the Goldsmiths’ Guild and that of the Tax Collector: And permits clockmakers to sell, for a period of six months, the items they currently have in their possession, provided they bring them to the Goldsmiths’ Guild within one month, in accordance with the Declaration of November 23, 1721 – 8-page quarto print with a header.
