BORDEAUX (Gironde) 1733. “THE POOR SHALL BE CLOTHED IN BLUE.” “The following was extracted from the Ordinances and Resolutions of the Board of the General Hospital of the City of BORDEAUX. February 22, 1733.” Ordinance requiring that all the poor, without exception, be dressed in blue. “It is hereby forbidden for both the gatekeeper and the nuns at the gate to allow any poor person—whether girl, woman, or man—to leave who is not dressed in blue; the Board hereby instructs Father POUSSARD and the Director of the said Hospital to ensure compliance with this ordinance, which shall be read aloud to all the said poor for this purpose and posted in the customary locations within the Hospital. ” Mr. GILLET DE LA CAZE, First President.
