Certificate signed by the parish priest of CALMOUTIER (Haute-Saône) in Franche-Comté, with the endorsement of Pierre François, Bishop of Philadelphia, suffragan of BESANÇON (Doubs). April 3, 1743. He declares that “Count DE LAVIER, Lord of this place, has six living children—three sons and three daughters. The two eldest sons are in the service of His Majesty and have distinguished themselves for their valor in the Bohemian army; the third child wears the petit collet and is studying in Besançon. The eldest daughter and the third, who is 7 years old, are here; the second is at Saint-Cyr; thus, since Lord DE LAVIER is neither wealthy nor well-connected, he has been unable to provide for or advance his children in a manner befitting his nobility… ” 2 pages in-4°.
