Count d’ARGENSON (Marc Pierre de VOYER) 1696–1764—Minister of War and General Intendant of the Post Office. He reorganized the army and paved the way for the victories at Fontenoy and Lawfeld—Letter signed at VERSAILLES (78) on April 30, 1747—to a commander; “The King having been informed, Sir, that several of the infantry regiments comprising his Army of Provence would be unable to serve during the upcoming campaign due to the large number of officers who are prisoners of war… ” he requests a list of the positions to be filled in the regiment under his command, in the absence of the officers held as prisoners of war, along with his proposal for their replacement. 2 folio pages.
