The Crown and the Church of France will be painfully and lamentably persecuted throughout the land. The Church will be stripped of all its temporal possessions… Then all the churches will be desecrated and defiled; holy women will abandon their monasteries and flee in all directions… men will resort to violence against the universal Church; She will have no defender for 25 months or more, because during that time there will be neither a Pope nor an Emperor in Rome, nor a ruler of France…’
