Count Charles de RONCHEROLLES, from an old Normandy family, - Lot 365
Count Charles de RONCHEROLLES, from an old Normandy family, a general, followed the princes into exile, served in their army, and returned to France on 18 Brumaire; Deputy for the EURE in 1815 – Letter A.S. “The Viscount de RONCHEROLLES, at ARDRES (Pas-de-Calais), July 13, 1789—to a Count: ‘ I would have liked to report on the punishment that Monsieur NEVEU, a sergeant in the Bourbon Dragoon Regiment, would have received, but I have just learned … that he was released at the request of the Duke of Bourbon without my knowledge....he has not yet rejoined his unit despite the order you had given him when he was released from prison on June 24, and he will certainly only rejoin by force... through the gendarmerie... This man is known to be a very bad character, and furthermore, he has committed many acts of malfeasance in the recruitment process, where Mr. de LA GUICHE employed him—such as presenting false or fictitious recruits who never actually joined the corps, which was a great loss to the regiment. ” – 1 folio page.
