JUSTICE. REVOLUTION. ILLE-ET-VILAINE. 1790. “Proclamation by the King (Louis XVI) on the Decrees of the National Assembly Concerning the JUDICIAL ORGANIZATION.” August 24, 1790. The law consists of twelve titles: (On arbitrators, On judges in general, Justices of the Peace, Judges of First Instance, Appellate Judges, The Procedure for Elections, The Installation of Judges, The Public Prosecutor’s Office, Court Clerks, Magistrates’ Courts and the Family Court, Judges in Police Matters, Judges in Commercial Matters.) Printed in RENNES (35) by J. Robiquet, printer for the Department of Ille-et-Vilaine, Rue Royale, 1790; 32 pages, in-4°. Copy signed by “M.J. AUFFRAY, Parish Priest of CHÂTEAUGIRON, read during the homily of our parish Mass on October 10, 1790.” ” The Law of August 16 and 24, 1790. This was the first major law on justice passed by the National Constituent Assembly. It remains known today as the foundation of the dual system of courts.
