Count Louis de NARBONNE-LARA (1755–1813) Minister of War from December 7, 1791, to March 9, 1792; one of the most active ministers of war during the Revolution. It was he who entrusted the three generals—Rochambeau, Luckner, and La Fayette—with command of the three armies into which he had divided the French forces. Letter signed “Louis de NARBONNE,” Minister of War—PARIS, December 14, 1791—1 folio page—to the Commissioners of the National Treasury in Paris - He recommends the memorandum by Mr. LA ROCHE, formerly Treasurer of War, to MONTMÉDY. “I shall be pleased to learn that this Treasurer has drawn your attention to the new distribution of paymaster positions.”
