César BERTHIER (1765–1819) General, Count of the Empire (1811), brother of the Marshal of the Empire – Letter signed in his capacity as Adjutant General of the Army of the North, addressed to the Commander of the Garrison of ST OMER (PAS-DE-CALAIS) — certifying a copy of a letter written to Marshal de ROCHAMBEAU by the Minister of War (DE GRAVE), dated Paris, April 27, 1792: “... It is the King’s intention that the officers of the battalions and squadrons initially assigned to remain in the garrisons be equipped with field gear so that they may be ready to march at a moment’s notice should circumstances require it... ” 1 folio page.
