PACHE (Jean-Nicolas) 1746–1823—Minister of War (Oct. 18, 179 - Lot 453
PACHE (Jean-Nicolas) 1746–1823—Minister of War (Oct. 18, 1792, to Feb. 2, 1793), then Mayor of Paris—Document signed “The Mayor of Paris, PACHE.” Paris, June 24, 1793. 1 folio page: “Citizens, Never has the need for weapons been more urgent; they arrive every day to be repaired; the arsenal’s halls are full of them. We can only make use of this precious stockpile by finding a way to have them repaired promptly. I therefore implore you, Citizens, to appeal to the patriotism of all the gunsmiths, armorsmiths, locksmiths, etc., established in your section, and to urge them, in the name of the salvation of the Fatherland, to suspend all other work so as to devote themselves solely to restoring the rifles stored in the arsenal to serviceable condition; they will be delivered to them upon presentation of the section’s certificate. ” — Attached is a lithographed portrait of Pache by Delpech. 1p in-8°
