AUDE. “COMPULSORY LOAN of Year IV.” (Burning of the ASSIGNATS.): “Law of the 3rd Nivôse, Year IV.” (December 24, 1795). “The Council of Elders, having declared the matter urgent, passes the following resolution: 1°) “ All Assignats originating from the Compulsory Loan shall be crossed out by the Collectors, in the presence of the lenders, canceled by the Receivers, and burned in Paris, in the same manner as those originating from the sale of national property serving as collateral for the Assignats.... 2°) Assignats based on a ratio of one hundred to one shall be accepted in payment of the Compulsory Loan in the Department of the Seine only until the 15th of the current month of Nivôse; and in the other departments, until the 30th of the same month inclusive… ” REUBELL, President.
