Excerpt from the Register of Deliberations of the Central Administration of the Department of AVEYRON, dated 16 Messidor, Year 6 (July 4, 1798), regarding the construction or restoration of major roads and the collection of a toll, a tax for their maintenance: “The toll has been decreed; it will be collected on the 25th of Messidor of the following year; checkpoints are set up at locations designated by the Government: in RODEZ, VILLEFRANCHE, MILLAU, ST-SERNIN-(SUR-RANCE), LAGUIOLE, and LE PONT-DE-SALARS”… Printed in RODEZ by Citizen Carrere’s Printing House.
