GUYANA. CAYENNE, October 28, 1818. Business letter to Mr. DO - Lot 611
GUYANA. CAYENNE, October 28, 1818. Business letter to Mr. DORNIAC, at his estate. 3 pages, in-4°: “Your cotton has already been loaded; I am enclosing the bills of lading… I have received letters from my brother; his latest is dated from Rouen, where he has chartered a ship and loaded various goods aboard it. The ship will depart from there for London to complete its loading… My brother tells me that the Government intends to send Chinese people here to populate the colony. I don’t have much of an idea about these plans; these men may be very hardworking and industrious, but I don’t believe they will assimilate with Europeans, whose customs and habits are so different...” Attached is a note regarding the loaded cotton.
