Marshal RANDON (Jacques, César, Count) Grenoble 1795 – Geneva 1871 – Marshal of France in 1856; close associate of Bugeaud in Algeria, where he directed military affairs in 1848; Minister of War; Governor-General of Algeria in 1856 – Autograph letter signed from METZ (57) on September 16, 1848, to Mr. Jules VIBERT, painter, regarding his portrait: “Sir, I arrived yesterday from a General Inspection tour that lasted nearly three months...” He sent him a note regarding “the frame and packaging for my portrait...” - 1 page, in-8° - Enclosed: An autograph signed letter from his wife, “Marshal RANDON,” bearing her cipher.
