Robert d’ORLÉANS, Duke of Chartres (Paris 1840 – Château de Saint-Firmin (Oise) 1910) Grandson of Louis-Philippe, King of the French. Father of the Count of Paris, Jean d’Orléans. A military man, he fought in the American Civil War, then went into exile with his uncles Joinville and Aumale in 1870. In 1871, he was sent to Algeria to quell a native revolt—13 private LETTERS addressed to the Count of SÉGUR (a relative). I believe I must go to Piedmont only for as long as necessary so as not to break ties with this army…” + Letter from Robert d’ORLÉANS, Cairo (Egypt) March 8, 1860 (He is 20 years old) + Letter from Robert d’ORLÉANS, Orléans House, Twickenham (England) July 23, 1862. He had returned from the American Civil War against the Confederates.
