FOREIGN LEGION 1902–1914. MADAGASCAR. Papers of a Foreign Legion commander who took part in the Madagascar expedition and later in the Battle of Taza (Morocco). A few items: A letter addressed to him from the Military Circle of FORT-DAUPHIN dated December 7, 1902, from the Madagascar Occupation Corps, written by a former officer friend. He gives him news of “his former kingdom.” ” “My dear MET… in six months, I hope the disarmament will be complete. We have collected 8,500 rifles since September 1901; the census will also be finished; the principle of taxation is accepted by everyone; the task I have set for myself will be accomplished, and I will take my leave with a certain degree of satisfaction.” Handwritten map of the Fort-Dauphin District, 1900–1902 (damaged). And a collection of postmarks from Madagascar’s military post offices, cut out from a sheet; his Field Journal, 1919–1923; maps and plans of Morocco: “TAZA Pass.” ” “Surroundings of Nekhila (Nkheila), January 1914,” 1 photo.
