NASA. LARGE FORMAT. HISTORIC GEMINI IV MISSION. Edward H. Wh - Lot 14
NASA. LARGE FORMAT. HISTORIC GEMINI IV MISSION. Edward H. White II’s first American spacewalk. June 3, 1965.
On June 3, 1965, Edward H. White II made history by becoming the first American to leave his spacecraft to float in the vacuum of space. For 23 minutes, he floated freely above Earth, connected to the Gemini IV capsule by a 7.5-meter umbilical cord, using a manual propulsion unit to control his movements before continuing his journey by the sheer inertia of his body. The extraordinary beauty of this scene, in which the astronaut appears suspended in infinity, has left a profound mark on the history of space photography. A true icon of the space race, this image foreshadowed future lunar explorations and remains one of the absolute masterpieces of the human adventure in the 20th century.
Post-processed chromogenic print. Numbered on the front. Caption on a label on the back. 40.6 x 40.6 cm with margins.
