NASA. LARGE FORMAT. HISTORIC APOLLO 11 MISSION. Rare. Histor - Lot 74
NASA. LARGE FORMAT. HISTORIC APOLLO 11 MISSION. Rare. Historic photograph. In front of the American flag, the silhouette of the man working on the right side of the image near the storage cabinet for scientific tools in the “Eagle” lunar module is the only image of astronaut Neil Armstrong on the lunar surface. In fact, astronaut Buzz Aldrin is the only man to have been photographed on the lunar surface during the two and a half hours of the Apollo 11 crew’s “moonwalk.” Some have claimed that Buzz Aldrin was “getting even” this way for not having been chosen to be the one to take the first step on the Moon. This was not a possibility, however, because Buzz Aldrin was not a civilian but a member of the military. It was only much later that this photograph was identified as that of Neil Armstrong, whose only known appearance on the Moon was his reflection in the most famous photograph of the space race: the “visor” shot, in which his silhouette is reflected in Buzz Aldrin’s helmet. July 20, 1969.
Post-processed chromogenic print. Numbered on the front. Caption on a label on the back. 40.6 x 40.6 cm with margins.
