NASA. LARGE FORMAT. HISTORIC APOLLO 11 MISSION. Rare. Histor - Lot 76
NASA. LARGE FORMAT. HISTORIC APOLLO 11 MISSION. Rare. Historic photograph. Just half an hour earlier, Neil Armstrong had become the first human to walk on the Moon. He was quickly followed by his crewmate Buzz Aldrin, and the two men immediately set to work deploying various scientific instruments to study the lunar environment. Neil Armstrong’s first photographs were a 360° panoramic view of the lunar surface, taken as soon as he set foot on the Moon. This was done to preserve an accurate scientific record of the lunar landscape in case an emergency required the immediate departure of the lunar module. Once Buzz Aldrin had, in turn, stepped onto the Moon, the two men set to work. This photograph is thus the first one Neil Armstrong took of Buzz Aldrin. Consequently, it is the first historic image of a human figure on an extraterrestrial body. The instrument that Buzz Aldrin is deploying is a solar wind measuring device, part of which will be brought back to Earth to analyze the particles deposited on it during the mission. July 20, 1969.
Post-chromogenic print. Numbered on the front. Caption on a label on the back. 40.6 x 40.6 cm with margins.
