NASA. LARGE FORMAT. APOLLO 15 MISSION. Panorama of the Swann Mountains. This photograph is part of a wide-angle panorama taken by astronaut James B. Irwin at the end of the second lunar excursion. It looks toward the Swann Mountains in the Hadley-Apennine region, which was explored by the Apollo 15 mission. In the foreground, the lunar surface bears the tracks left by the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV). These panoramas enabled scientists to place the rock samples in their geological context. Today, they constitute one of the best photographic records of the Moon’s surface. 1971. Post-processed chromogenic print. Numbered on the front.
