Astronaut Gene Cernan, on the right, has just raised the American flag, which is being broadcast live around the world as it stands once again on the Moon, thanks to the Apollo 17 mission’s television camera. To this day, this remains the last American flag planted on the Moon. Behind the flag is the silhouette of geologist and astronaut Jack Schmidt. December 1972.
