NASA. LARGE FORMAT. APOLLO 16 MISSION. John W. Young and the Rover on the Moon This photograph shows astronaut John W. Young putting away tools in the lunar rover during the Apollo 16 mission. The image was taken by Charles M. Duke Jr. at the Descartes landing site. In the background is Smokey Mountain, a feature dominated by the large Ravine crater. The rover allowed the astronauts to explore a vast region of the lunar surface. This mission brought back valuable samples that helped scientists better understand the Moon’s geological history. 1972. Post-chromogenic print. Numbered on the front.
