NASA. LARGE FORMAT. APOLLO 17 MISSION. Harrison Schmitt Collects Lunar Samples This photograph shows astronaut Harrison H. Schmitt collecting soil samples near the Camelot crater during the Apollo 17 mission. The image was taken by Commander Eugene Cernan during the second lunar excursion. The rocks collected provided a better understanding of the origin and evolution of the lunar surface. The lunar rover visible nearby facilitated the astronauts’ travel over several kilometers. This mission remains the last human exploration of the Moon to date. 1972. Post-processed chromogenic print. Numbered on the front. Caption on a label on the back. 40.6 x 40.6 cm with margins.
