View of Spacelab in the cargo bay of Atlantis This photograph shows the Spacelab laboratory installed in the cargo bay of the space shuttle Atlantis, docked at the Russian space station Mir. It was taken from a window on Mir during mission STS-71, the first encounter between a U.S. space shuttle and the Russian space station. The astronauts conducted numerous scientific experiments aboard Spacelab. This mission marked an important milestone in space cooperation between the United States and Russia. It paved the way for future missions that would lead to the construction of the International Space Station (ISS). 1995. Vintage chromogenic print. Numbered on the front.
