NASA. Hubble Space Telescope. The Quintuplet Cluster at the heart of the Milky Way. 1997.
This extraordinary photograph from the Hubble Space Telescope reveals the Quintuplet Cluster, one of the most impressive clusters of young stars in our Galaxy, hidden behind thick clouds of dust nearly 25,000 light-years from Earth, at the edge of the Milky Way’s center. Taken in infrared light, this image pierces the veils of matter that usually obscure this region and reveals a spectacular profusion of massive stars, including the legendary Pistol Star, one of the brightest known. Exceptionally rich in visual detail, this composition combines depth, contrast, and color in a scene of rare intensity. A true masterpiece of astrophotography, it reveals one of the most extreme and fascinating stellar environments in our Galaxy.
Vintage chromogenic print. Caption on a label on the back. 25.4 x 20.4 cm with margins.
