NASA. LARGE FORMAT. Solar observation. - Lot 248
NASA. LARGE FORMAT. Solar observation. Solar tsunami, 2007. This image shows a massive wave of material spreading across the Sun’s surface following a flare. The wave traveled approximately 800,000 kilometers in a few hours at speeds of up to 1,500 km/s. It was observed by the STEREO Ahead spacecraft, which tracked its progress through the solar atmosphere. This phenomenon was likely triggered by a solar flare accompanied by a coronal mass ejection. This photograph illustrates the power of the storms that regularly occur on our star. Vintage chromogenic print. Numbered on the front. Caption on a label on the back. 40.6 x 40.6 cm with margins.
