These formations were created billions of years ago when water flowed through cracks in the rocks. The minerals deposited by this water hardened, while the wind subsequently eroded the softer rocks. These landforms could prove that groundwater existed on Mars for longer than previously thought. This discovery helps scientists better understand the history of water and the ancient conditions for life on the Red Planet. Vintage chromogenic print.
