Paul DEROULEDE (1846–1914, poet and nationalist activist) / Early poem (written when he was 20), signed autograph, 1 ½ folio pages (tears at the fold and rough edges), dated January 1867: 7 stanzas, each with 5 alexandrine lines—one of the stanzas has been heavily revised, with cross-outs and corrections [In a book published by Éditions Modernes upon Déroulède’s death in 1914, with a preface by Maurice Barrès, Camille Ducray paid tribute to him with an early biography, several documents, and illustrations; he included this poem, quoting part of it and noting that it was a “little-known poem that appeared in 1867 and which Déroulède had titled ‘Expérience’” — These verses appeared in 1867 in *La Revue Nationale* and were never published again (except in part in this tribute by Ducray) — Provenance: Edouard Champion (publisher) Collection; the folder has been preserved
