Stors Castle (Isle-Adam) – Casimir CHEUVREUX (1797–1881, businessman and owner of the Château de Stors) / “The Roman Empire in Rome” by Jean-Jacques Ampère (1800–1864), 2 volumes, Paris: Michel Lévy Frères, 1867, bound in crimson half-shagreen, with an ornate ribbed spine (viii + 411 pp., in-8, and 459 pp., in-8), preface by Gustave Servois, in which he explains that this posthumous edition (the conclusion of his “History of Rome”) was initiated by Casimir Cheuvreux, a friend of Ampère’s and his executor – These copies belonged to Gustave Servois (1829–1927, a high-ranking civil servant) and are accompanied by two autograph letters signed by Casimir Cheuvreux to Gustave Servois regarding this edition, written from the Château de Stors on July 16 and 24, 1864 (4 and 2 pp., in-8)
