FILM - Henri FESCOURT (Béziers 1880–1966, film director) / A fine collection: 1) 2 signed autograph manuscripts, one 22 pages, in-4 format (a film script with detailed instructions for the music and visuals), the other a short story titled “Le Mariage de Mlle Alice” (9 pages, in-8 format, in a titled folder) / 2°) A very comprehensive file on “La Maison de la Licorne,” a 1943 film project: Henri Fescourt wished to adapt the novel “La Maison de la Licorne” by Yves Dartois (1901–1975, author of adventure novels) into a film; he first approached Maurice Gagneur (1878–1964) for a stage adaptation, then screenwriter Jean-Louis Bouquet (1898–1978, also known by the pen name Jean d’Ansennes) for the film adaptation: Letter from Bouquet (unsigned duplicate) proposing to Fescourt a film adaptation of Dartois’s novel, for which he held the option to the rights (August 20, 1941); Autograph letter signed by Yves Dartois dated April 29, 1943, authorizing Fescourt to adapt his novel for the stage; Contract signed by both Fescourt and Bouquet authorizing a film adaptation; Contract signed by Fescourt and Gagneur (May 10, 1943) for the stage adaptation; Letter-contract between Fescourt and Bouquet for the film adaptation (May 10, 1943); Signed autograph draft of a letter from Fescourt to actress Marcelle Géniat regarding the role of Grandmother Van Osten in the future film; Typed manuscript (2 pages, in-4 format) regarding the changes the adaptation will make to the roles of the nurse and Jean Verger compared to the novel; Typed manuscript (25 pages, in-4) titled “Outline for a Film Adaptation by Jean d’Ansennes,” with a few handwritten corrections by Fescourt and 4 inserted pages of handwritten notes by Fescourt (Enclosed: another copy of this typewritten manuscript); Typewritten manuscript (165 pp., in-4) of the final screenplay, along with a letter from the Association of Film Authors acknowledging receipt of the screenplay and a registration form for its filing (September 2, 1943)
