Robert WAUCHOPE (1788–1862, Admiral in the Royal Navy, he invented the "time ball," which allowed marine chronometers to be synchronized with a reference time standard for determining longitude (used until the widespread adoption of electronic time signals) / Autograph document signed “R. Wauchope capt. retr.” (retired captain), 1 page in-8, written in Lisieux (Calvados, France) on June 15, 1843, in which he asks his business correspondent to exchange three English promissory notes for him totaling 1,500 francs - He notes in the postscript that he was commander of the H%S Thalia from 1834 to 1838, stationed at the Cape - Ink stamp from the autograph collection of Frédéric Nasse in Lisieux (the person to whom Captain Wauchope is writing)
